AC & Heating

AC & HEATING REPAIR IN WEST ROXBURY, MA

Don't find out your AC is broken on the first hot day of June. We'll check it now.

Boston summers are short but they're not forgiving. Neither are New England winters. Your car's climate system works harder here than almost anywhere — hot, humid summers followed by months of subfreezing starts, road salt, and everything in between.

If something's off — weak airflow, warm air when it should be cold, a heater that takes forever to kick in — come see us. We'll figure out what's going on and give you an honest read on what it costs to fix.

THE HONEST AC & HEATING GUIDE

What You Actually Need to Know

A few common reasons:

  • Low refrigerant — the most common cause. Refrigerant doesn’t get “used up” like oil, so if it’s low, there’s usually a leak somewhere. A recharge fixes the symptom; finding the leak fixes the problem.
  • Faulty compressor — the heart of the AC system. When it goes, the whole system stops cooling.
  • Blocked condenser — road debris can clog the condenser in front of your radiator, reducing cooling efficiency
  • Electrical issue — fans, relays, and sensors can all cause AC problems that aren’t refrigerant-related at all

We’ll run a proper diagnosis to find the actual cause — not just top off the refrigerant and send you on your way.

A recharge adds refrigerant back to the system. If your AC is blowing warm and the refrigerant is low, a recharge will get it cooling again. But if there’s a leak, it’ll be warm again in a few weeks.

We’ll check for leaks first. If we find one, we’ll tell you what it is, where it is, and what it costs to properly fix before we recommend a recharge.

It can be, especially in very cold weather when the engine itself takes time to warm up. But if it’s taking significantly longer than it used to, or if the heat feels weaker than before, it’s worth looking at. Common causes include a low coolant level, a failing thermostat, or a clogged heater core.

A heater that doesn’t work properly in a Massachusetts winter isn’t just uncomfortable — a fogged-up windshield is a safety issue.

The humidity here is harder on AC systems than dry climates. More wear on the compressor, more potential for mold and mildew buildup in the evaporator (that musty smell when you first turn on the AC? That’s usually the culprit). And the extreme cold of New England winters means most people go months without running the AC at all — which actually isn’t great for the system’s seals and lubricants.

Running your AC for a few minutes once a week in winter keeps the system in better shape. Not many people know that.

Summer's coming. Don't wait until it's 90 degrees. Book an AC check now — we'll tell you exactly where things stand. (617) 325-2200
