Tire Sales & Service

TIRE SALES & SERVICE IN WEST ROXBURY, MA

Michelin, BFGoodrich, and Uniroyal — and an honest opinion on whether you actually need new ones yet.

Before we sell you tires, we'll tell you if you need them. That's not a sales pitch — it's just how we've always worked. If your tires have life left in them, we'll tell you. If they need to go, we'll show you why, explain your options, and help you find the right tire for how you actually drive.

BRANDS WE CARRY

The Brands We Trust

We carry Michelin, BFGoodrich, and Uniroyal — and here’s something worth knowing: all three are Michelin brands. Same family, different tiers.

  • Michelin — premium performance, longest tread life, the gold standard for a reason. What Jason puts on his own car.
  • BFGoodrich — proven performance at a step down in price. Strong all-terrain and all-season options, popular with trucks and SUVs.
  • Uniroyal — solid, reliable, and honestly one of the best values in wet-weather performance. The Tiger Paw has been a New England staple for decades.

Not sure which tier makes sense for your car and your budget? That’s exactly the kind of question we’re happy to answer before you commit to anything.

THE HONEST TIRE GUIDE

What You Actually Need to Know

The penny test is the old standard — stick a penny in the tread with Lincoln’s head pointing down. If you can see the top of his head, you’re at 2/32″ of tread and it’s time to replace. But honestly, we’d rather you come see us before you get there.

At 4/32″ — roughly the quarter test — stopping distances start getting noticeably longer, especially on wet roads. In New England, where you’re dealing with rain, slush, and the occasional surprise snowstorm well into April, that margin matters.

When your car comes in for any service, we measure tread depth as part of our Digital Vehicle Inspection and note it on your maintenance record. You won’t need to guess — we’ll tell you where you stand.

Most West Roxbury drivers run all-season tires year-round, and for most of them that’s a reasonable choice. Modern all-seasons handle a normal Boston winter better than they used to.

That said, if you’re doing a lot of highway driving, live on a hilly street, or just want more confidence in the snow, dedicated winter tires make a real difference. They’re not just about snow — they stay softer and grip better in any temperature below about 45°F.

Jason’s honest take: if you’re asking the question, you probably already know your answer.

Road salt is hard on tire sidewalls and accelerates wear on older rubber. Potholes — and Boston has more than its share — cause impact damage and knock wheels out of alignment. And the temperature swings here mean your tire pressure can drop significantly overnight in winter, which affects both safety and fuel economy.

A few things worth doing:

  • Check tire pressure monthly in winter — cold air drops PSI
  • Get a rotation every 5,000–7,500 miles to even out wear
  • After hitting a significant pothole, it’s worth a quick alignment check

Not required, but usually smart. If your alignment is off, new tires will wear unevenly from day one. We’ll always check alignment when you come in for tires and tell you honestly if it needs adjusting.
